Under My Foot - A Play Idea
I was in a play called The Insect Play by Josef and Karel Capek about a homeless war veteran who gets high in a park and all the bugs try to get him to accept a new way of life in order to not kill himself. He does, but I had this idea for an adaptation of it so like, here is that.
SUMMARY – Modernized Adaptation of Josef and Karel Capek’s 1921 Czechoslovakian piece, The Insect Play – The play follows Jasper, a 26 year-old high school dropout, stoner, burnout grocery store-clerk who decides to take his own life by drinking and drugging himself to death behind the gas station he works at. In the fever dream that comes with the coke, pills, and booze, he starts to see reasons people live in the bugs that are scattered around this scaled up set of a grocery store loading dock. A direct adaptation of the Capek Brother’s source material, Jasper discovers and denies ideology after ideology and the universe tries to desperately give him something to believe in through these dumb little bugs.
