A Pixar Pitch That Never Happened
Okay, so I submitted for the Pixar internship in college and one of the things I had to submit was a concept for a short film, like one of those short animated movies before the big ones. I was really proud of my idea so, like, here it is.
Plot Synopsis: The film follows the story of two socks in a basement laundry machine. They’re a pair. We watch them spinning and cycling together, true bliss. After the dryer ends, we see the a parent pulling out the laundry and toss the socks among others into the laundry basket. It’s one of those laundry baskets with slots on the sides. While walking up the old wooden stairs, one of the socks shuffles a bit. We see it start to slide out of one of the slots. After the parent trips up a bit, the sock falls out slowly. The two socks, the pair makes eye contact, and lose each other. We see the sock sitting on the stairs by itself, and it blinks. Two eyes are on the front of the sock. And for the first time, we se it slink. Kinda like a worm or a caterpillar maybe? It starts to go up the stairs, very slowly, struggling. As it reaches the top of the stairs, it’s quickly grabbed by the dog and run outside. Then grabbed by the other parent and tossed on the top of the trash can at the curb, after that grabbed by a bird and brought back to the porch where the baby grabs the sock. The sock goes on this long journey that ends with it gross and crumpled and laying outside on the porch. Just as it is about to give up, the first parent shows up and says “There you are” and picks up the sock. The sock looks beaten and the the parent says, “I know someone who’s been missing ya”. Pulls out the other sock. She walks it down to be washed again as it is very gross and we watch the two socks, one inside the washer and one outside. Waiting to be made a pair again.
